Call for applications: Empowering Journalists to Promote Reconciliation in the South Caucasus

GO Group Media and Prague-based organization Transitions Online are inviting applications from young practicing journalists and journalism students from across the South Caucasus for an opportunity to be trained to use new media tools to produce impactful journalism.

Over the next ten months, the participants of the project 'Empowering Journalists to Promote Reconciliation in the South Caucasus’ will engage in the production of short multimedia featuring stories of lived experience told by their fellow community members.

Every participant will be presented with a smartphone for their filming sessions. Later on, trainees who will have demonstrated the greatest potential as learners will be rewarded with a chance to participate in an International Photojournalism Course in Prague.

Candidates are expected to speak Russian and have basic computer skills. Please send your CV and motivation letter writing ‘Multimedia Course’ in a subject line to maka.tsnobiladze@gogroupmedia.net

The deadline is September 15, 2013.

Go Group Media invites journalists working in the Caucasus region to take part in the four-day journalistic expedition aimed to understanding the reasons for the rise of the tensions on religious grounds in recent years in Georgia and exploring the prospects of resolving the problem.

The expedition will include trips to the two regions, where relations between the Muslim and Christian communities have become particularly complicated: to Adjara, where the prospect of building a new mosque provoked controversy and protests from both communities; and to Kvemo Kartli, where villagers, both Christians and Muslims, claim about mutual problems and threats. Journalists will have the opportunity to see the situation on the spot, meet the locals and hear their stories and arguments, as well as talk with the experts and authorities.

The journalistic expedition is being organized with the support of the Finnish Foundation VIKES and will be held on September 19-22. All travel-related expenses (transportation, hotels, meals) for ten participants from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia and the republics of the North Caucasus, selected through a competition, will be paid by GO Group Media. GO Group Media is ready to provide the opportunity to participate in the expedition to those interested journalists from Russia, Ukraine and other countries, but, unfortunately, their expenses can not be covered.

Those wishing to participate in the expedition please send an e-mail, stating your current place of work and professional experience, to the following address: maka.tsnobiladze@gogroupmedia.net
